Description
Explore The Rum Story Exhibition before heading down to our Vaults for an exclusive History talk on ‘the ship that changed the world’ from researcher Laura Hesketh
The Santa Maria is often described as the ship that changed the world. But what kind of world did it help shape?
Using the replica of Christopher Columbus’s flagship as a starting point, this talk explores the far-reaching impact of the 1492 voyage, from exploration and cultural encounter to conquest, colonialism, and empire. Along the way, we consider how museums and heritage sites tell these stories, and whose voices are included or left out.
